In 2017, after two years of unrecognized symptoms, Oya was diagnosed with MM, leading him to transplant in 2018. This experience ignited a fire in him to raise awareness about health literacy and disparities in the Black community. Oya now hosts the “Hip, Hope, Hooray! Black Men Talking Health Podcast”, and just this year, launched the Health, Hope, & Hip-Hop Foundation, a non-profit organization addressing these disparities at the grassroots level. The Foundation empowers communities of color to take proactive steps in their healthcare journeys, striving to create a more equitable healthcare landscape.
Oya is committed to being a game changer, not a spectator, and inspires others to join him in advocating for a healthier future for all.
